About Us
La Cabana is proud to say it has been offering a Genuine Taste of Mexico in Venice, CA since 1963. La Cabaña has only one location and is independently owned, and not affiliated with any other restaurant. The restaurant's founders, Nina L Haro and her husband Carlos Rafael Haro Lasso started La Cabaña when they decided to open a Mexican restaurant in Venice. Soon after opening, the restaurant began making hand-made tortillas on the premises. In fact, we were the first Mexican restaurant on the westside to offer hand-made tortillas with its dishes. We were also one of the first to offer genuine Mexican "Platillos" and continue with this tradition. Our Carnitas, for example, are prepared in the style found in Michoacan, Mexico, while other dishes like our Plato de Barbacoa hail from recipes found in Texcoco, Mexico.
Most of our employees have been with us for almost 20 years. Some 30, 40 and even 50 years! They are considered as family and are an integral part of our success. Their loyalty and dedication are second to none and their professionalism is a major reason why we continue to be successful today. Now after many years, what was once a small, thatched roof hut, La Cabaña has flourished into a Venice landmark restaurant that is proud of its heritage. Nina Louise Haro
Founder of La Cabaña Restaurant
Nina Louis Haro, founder of La Cabaña Restaurant in Venice, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 80 on December 29, 2016 at her home in Lake Havasu, AZ. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA of parents Peter and Anita Roberts. She had a love for school and always achieved the highest marks ultimately graduating summa cum laude from Carnegie Mellon University. She was an extremely bright and an independent business woman as well. In 1963 she and her husband, Carlos Haro Lasso, opened up La Cabaña Restaurant in Venice, CA. Through her diligence, hard work and her intelligence, she led the way to the success of her business for over 50 years and La Cabaña is now considered one of the most iconic Mexican restaurants in the Venice community. Her love for work however, did not overshadow her love for music. She had a passion for opera and in her later years dedicated much of her time volunteering and working with the LA Opera. Per Nina's request, La Cabaña Restaurant has remained within the family and is now run by her children to carry on her legacy. A Celebration of Life memorial service was held at her restaurant, La Cabaña Restaurant. In lieu of flowers Nina requested that donations be made in memory of Nina Louise Haro to The Opera League of Los Angeles, PO Box 49-1057, Los Angeles, CA 90049-9057.
Barbara Haro
Bookkeeping and Finance
Daughter of founder Nina L Haro, Barbara Haro was Nina's right hand woman. She was always by her side and assisting Nina with all of the finances of the business. Now, Barbara is walking in Nina's footsteps and has taken over the bookkeeping and is the financial nuts and bolts of La Cabaña. Graduate of Johnson & Wales University, she is the behind the scenes powerhouse that keeps La Cabaña financially afloat and manages the day to day bookkeeping. She has a love for cows, likes to crochet, and makes a mean fudge too!
Carlos L Haro
General Manager
Son of Founder Nina L Haro, Carlos is the General Manager of La Cabaña. He is a graduate from the UCLA Restaurant Management program as well as from the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy in Pasadena with high honors. After completing his tour with the US Army in Iraq, he returned home to help with the family business. Now he is in charge of overseeing the day to day operations and works closely with the employees and vendors as well as reaching out to our loyal customers to ensure their complete satisfaction with dining experiences at La Cabaña.
Victoria Haro
Banquet and Event Coordinator
Victoria Haro is wife to Carlos L Haro and one of the newest members of the La Cabaña team. As Banquet and Event Coordinator, she is the one who ensures that all of your parties are fun and festive! A graduate of University of Southern California, Vicky has worked as an Event Coordinator in several jobs prior to working at La Cabaña, and now she is using her talents to help plan luncheons for 15 people in our dining room all the way up to cocktail and appetizer parties for 75 people on our Patio and Back Bar area. Rene Muñoz
Assistant Manager
Rene Muñoz, Assistant Manager, has been with La Cabaña for 15 years. He began as a busboy and rapidly grew through the ranks establishing himself as a respected leader among his peers and is now working directly with La Famila as a cornerstone manager with direct ties to the entire staff. He is in charge of payroll, hiring and orientation of new employees as well as scheduling and employee retention. Many of his own family work at La Cabaña including his Father (Ramiro Muñoz, 40 years of service) and his Uncles (ranging from 8 years to 35 years of service). Rene's ability to remain firm in upholding the policies of La Cabaña, yet while acknowledging the staff with dignity and respect, has earned him this prestigious position recognized by all his peers including his own family seniors. He has a love for cars, his family and is a loyal Dodgers fan!
